I spent today in Greenback cutthroat and blue grouse country in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains outside of Westcliffe, Colorado.
It was a glorious day!
The dogs and I found some blue grouse, but I messed it up when I was trying to get a photo of my Elhew pointer on point…the grouse blew out, and I missed the photo and never fired a shot! The older I get, the more I enjoy the photos of my dogs on point! Although, I do love to eat blue grouse cooked on the grill with olive oil and lemon pepper! I’m gonna have to get serious about grouse (for dinner) next week!
I was able to fool a few colorful Greenbacks and brookies…the brookies are spawning and wearing their gorgeous Fall colors! Ants and beetles were just the ticket today!
I finished the day at a wonderful restaurant in Westcliffe, CO called Cel Dor Asado which is a traditional Uruguayan wood fired grill. The meal was incredible! If you ever get out his way, I would strongly recommend it!
I already commented on the other blog about one aspect of this. Here I'll just mention that the dogs have decided not to leave you now that you've rediscovered birds, at least for a few hours. Ellie is especially happy since she got to jump in the creek and try to retrieve the fish, I think. You need somebody to walk along and handle the camera. Those "blues" aren't gonna' hang around for supper otherwise!
Been enjoying your blog for quite awhile now.all the best
