>A View From Colorado Grouse Country

>

I decided last night to head up into the high country today to chase ptarmigan with my bird dogs at 12,500 ft above sea level which is a 2 hour drive from home! Karen and the girls had a school function this afternoon, and I’m waiting (patiently) for Walter and his wife Joanne to make the final push into Denver…I thought it would be a better way to pass the time by going bird doggin’! I didn’t think to check the conditions in the high country before I left…wouldn’t you know there was a good 6 to 8 inches of snow in my ptarmigan coverts! What’s a guy to do, but go blue grouse hunting! What the heck! It’s only an hour further, right!

What a glorious day in blue grouse country! We moved several nice coveys and had some incredible dog work to boot! I can’t think of a better way to pass the day!

Walter will pick up Pride tonight and get rested from their long trip from Southern California! Monday a.m. we’re headed into sage chicken territory for a few days!

    >I’m jealous. My older ESS is laid up with an ulcer on her eye from a fox tail seed that got stuck under her inner eye lid. She’s improving but I can’t make it out funtil end of the week. Good luck with the sage grouse.Matt
