PREORDER A SIGNED COPY OF IDAHO GROUSE FEVER: AN OBSESSION FOR ALL THINGS GROUSE

The front cover painting is “Sharp Shooters” by Ross B. Young

It has been a long time coming, but I am happy to report that my third bird-hunting book, Idaho Grouse Fever: An Obsession for All Things Grouse will be published soon. Idaho Grouse Fever is along the same lines as my first two books, Idaho Ruffed Grouse Hunting and Idaho Upland Days, but this book is focused on stories and essays on hunting the five native grouse species of Idaho; ruffed, blue, sharp-tailed, sage, and Franklin grouse. The foreword was written by fellow attorney and grouse-hunting author, Ken McIntyre, the author of Grouse Points, and the cover artwork was provided by my friend, Ross B. Young (who provided the cover for Idaho Upland Days). In fact, the official date for the release is August 22, 2026 and the book is already open for preorder on amazon.com. The book will be paperback, but the binding will be tight and nice just like Idaho Ruffed Grouse Hunting.

Following is the back cover blurb that sums up this fun book:

Reflections, Musings, and Withdrawals

In hunting, “buck fever” strikes when excitement for a big deer makes it hard to shoot straight. For upland hunters, that same surge of adrenaline comes with the thunderous flush of a grouse. But “grouse fever” is more than a fleeting rush—it’s a lasting fixation on all things grouse: the birds, the dogs, the coverts, the literature, and the camaraderie of trusted hunting companions.

Author Andrew Marshall Wayment calls Idaho home, where he has spent twenty-five years pursuing five species of grouse—ruffed, dusky, sage, sharp-tailed, and Franklin’s. Through recollections, essays, and artwork, Andy explores this enduring affliction and affirms his long-held adage: “I never met a grouse I didn’t like.”

I am also happy to team up once again with my friend, Jay Dowd @upland_lowlife, for the illustrations in this book. As some of you may recall, Jay provided a few original drawings for my first book, Idaho Ruffed Grouse Hunting. For Idaho Grouse Fever, Jay has provided twenty original drawings that grace the book’s pages. I have no doubts that this book is bettered by his contributions.

Ye Ol’ Outhouse, by Jay Dowd.

As with my other books, the book contains numerous black and white and color photos that bring to life the stories. The book will have a section of beautiful color photos in the middle similar to what was done in Idaho Ruffed Grouse Hunting. So, hopefully, the book will be both fun to read and aesthetically pleasing.
